Crash Investigation 2 Online is asynchronous and instructor led. At-scene traffic crash data collection is useful only if all appropriate data is properly collected, interpreted, and analyzed. Officers and investigators who successfully complete Crash Investigation 2 develop skills in technically preparing crash investigation data and collecting follow-up data. Building upon topics examined in Crash 1, students delve further into the information available at a crash scene, how to properly collect it, and how to initiate its interpretation. Like Crash Investigation 1, the course is rooted in Baker and Fricke’s Traffic Crash Investigation and emphasizes vehicle behavior in crashes, vehicle damage analysis, advanced measuring and mapping, properly downloading and preserving digital evidence from collision investigations, examining road marks and tire damage, and more.

SECOND IN A SERIES OF THREE COURSES Building upon the theories and techniques learned in IPTM’s At-Scene Traffic Crash/Traffic Homicide Investigation course, this class will delve into the advanced concepts of traffic crash investigations. More complex vehicle dynamics like acceleration/deceleration, factor, rate and airborne situations will be explored. You will learn to estimate speeds from falls, vaults, and flips and the calculation of kinetic energy and linear momentum. You’ll also learn to evaluate vehicle lamps, tires, and damage to help determine vehicle behaviors during the collision. Much of the coursework will be spent using acceleration/deceleration factors and perception/reaction times to determine time/distance relationships for colliding vehicles. IPTM’s Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation will prepare you for a variety of advanced and specialty courses in traffic crash investigations.

FIRST IN A SERIES OF THREE COURSES This course will equip you with the necessary skills to conduct a thorough traffic crash investigation and properly document your findings for courtroom presentation. We will show you the proper procedures for measuring, scale diagramming, and photographing in order to record physical evidence and essential facts available only at the crash scene. You will learn the fundamentals of mathematics, physics and engineering as they pertain to crash investigations and the proper mathematical equations to apply for the type of crash being investigated. Teaches crash investigation and reconstruction professionals advanced methods for applying CDR data in their collision reconstructions. Emphasis is placed on teaching students how correctly use the ?v data to determine impact and post-impact velocities in various types of collision scenarios. In addition to advanced ?v equations, other covered skills include reconciling pre-crash and post-crash CDR data as well as analyzing the data within the context of crash reconstruction.
